Day 186 to 205
January 8th to the 27th, 2008 |
Sadly...We now start heading...North...
From Cabo San Lucas to Los Cerritos.
|
Life of sick and poorests in Cabo San Lucas! Here's one who could'nt
care less how high the prices are... |
Many had told us:
"I hate Cabo, there's nothing to it, it's just a place to party." or even:
"Cabo is just a dump!"...
Others said it was a cool place and that the weather there was super nice!
After 2 weeks, here are our impressions about it, what we liked and disliked about
Cabo:
We simply loved the brown sugar colored beach, the turquoise water of the tropics, the
sun every day and the absence of wind. It was really nice to find restaurants that serve
food we can actually recognize and the nightlife of the town.
On the other hand, we did'nt care too much for the smell of raw sewage so strong it
would wake us up at night, nor for "camping" parked like sardines at the RV park
and for prices so incredibly high, it's ridiculous! Not necessarily very reassuring either
to see a guy being seached, at machine gun point, on a street corner, by 7 or 8
"Federales" all dressed in black with bullet proof vests, face masks and
military style helmets...
And besides, Minnie's getting bored at the campground!! |
|
In short, it's time we hit the road...
...So, here we go again!!!
On the way to Los Cerritos via some back roads...
...And some really nice tiny little villages.
Oh, Oh!! It's been a while since that happened...Unfortunately, maps don't show gates
(Well, now mine will...). Turn around and backtrack time...
Aahh!! Our first glimpse at the Pacific ocean!
An almost desert beach, just south of Los Cerritos. Not too bad, is'nt it?
|
7,000 miles!
Now that's what I call an ATV ride! |
We set up camp at Los Cerritos. Free dry camping, with a wonderful view of the ocean to
the west. And the beach is just a couple minutes walk from the tent.
Looking south from our site.
And, to the east, the mountains.
Yeah...I think we might stay a couple of days here! You probably guessed this is much
more our kind of environment...
Hey Minnie! That's quite the playground, we found you!
Unrelated, but true!
No snowmobiles!?! |
|
Yeah ! Aaahhh Vacations!
|
The sun, the beach, we're so lucky! It's wonderful! |
Bof... |
Time goes by so quick ... |
|
Incredible! We've been on the road more than 6 months,
already!! |
|
|
|
''Fresh fish, si Senor! '' One of the vendors that come by once or twice
a week and sell fish, lobster, shrimps, scallops, jewlery, baskets, etc, etc... |
Tonight we celebrate our reunion with Don and Mary (who we met in Richfield and again
in Marysvale, Utah) and with Andy, Manon and Emma (Yes, yes the same guys who so kindly
invited us to share their Christmas dinner).
It's Mary and Don who invited us to rendez-vous with them here. Thanks for letting us
discover this beautiful place!
...And the days still fly by so quickly...
The next morning...
Aahh!! There's nothing quite like a little ATV ride (for a change) to enjoy the
stunning scenery!
"WOW!" When you run out of words to say how pretty the place is...
"Ouff !!! Minnie, I sure hope you quit growing up pretty soon. If you don't stop
getting bigger, we won't be able to see Mommy on the pictures anymore...
"Oh No! Now Minnie is getting into Daddy's bad habit...
Minnie! Get away from that cliff, PLEASE!!"
Our good friends, Don and Mary with Squeek.
What's most enjoyable in travelling with quads is that it gives us access to remote
places and lets us discover wonderful spots. Like this beach here. Can't get here with a
car...

"I think I'll go for a swim! Are you coming?"
Minnie does'nt care too much for the water... Never mind the waves of the
Pacific ocean... She just sits on the seat and wait patiently. Say! That does'nt leave
much room for Mommy, does it? Does Polaris make 3 seaters quads? |

"Hey Roberto! Pretty incredible! This guy flew from Mexico City to San José Del
Cabo, rented a car and drove 1.5 hrs just to meet us! He wanted to learn more about our
trip and see with his own eyes all the gear we have. He's planning on doing something
similar in the near future. It was a short (Saturday 4pm to sunday 11am...) but very
enjoyable and instructive visit for all of us. Roberto quadded across Baja twice already.
He says we should be able to ride the beach from just north of Todo Santos almost to San
Carlos. That's close to 250 miles (400kms) of beach!!!
"Good luck, Roberto!"
Los Cerritos is a favorite spot of surfers... |

Living the good life in this little Paradise!!

Due to the very limited availability of fresh food and also to enjoy local Mexican
food, we decided to eat at restaurants more often for the duration of our stay in Baja.
If we discover something worth mentionning,we'll let you know.
Aujourd'hui /Today:
Fluorescent chicken with orange potatoes!
Buy some pre-seasonned frozen chicken and cook the small potatoes in the same pan at
the same time to save time. Result: Fluorescent chicken and orange potatoes!
Tastes funny at first, but after awhile, it glows on ya!
