Day 21
From Missoula to Wisdom, Montana - Part 1
Our "biggest" fan yet! Joey is 5 and if you wonder how an internal combustion
engine works, just ask him, he'll tell you! Seriously! The least we can say is that he's
very, very knowledgeable, for his age! We told him we were going to Mexico and asked him
if he knew where Mexico was. He answered without hesitation:
"Just south of texas"!
Goodbye Joey!
Now, here's the Rock Creek Lodge, home ofthe Testicle Festival!
We all heard of all kinds of festivals, but the "testicle festival"???
There are a lot of ranches around here and, every year, hundreds, thousands of bulls
are castrated. Seems someone had the lucrative idea to cook those bull balls and make an
event out of it!!
For your info, Playboy magazine considers the Testicle Festival one of the top 25
events to attend in your life...Makes you wonder...
This year, for their 25th anniversary, they plan a big one...
It's by discussing with folks from the area that we decide which route to take. They
know their region and can direct us to the nicest spots to discover. Speak to local folks,
they're your best guides.
Thanks Maurice, Peggy, Shirley and Jeff (not on pic.) for you help, kindness,
generosity and patience!
It's sad to see you guys turn around and head back home. After a couple of days
together, we had the priviledge of getting to know you better. Sad to say that we probably
won't see each other again...
We keep only good memories of those happy companions, always smily.
THANKS!!
After having spotted our route yesterday, we know for a fact that there is a forest
fire near Rock Creek rd, which we must take. Will we be able to make it through, yes?
No?...
At mile marker no9, we can see the flames in the forest on the right hand side. As well
as the chopper carrying water to try to contain it.
We stop a moment to look and, as we're bout to leave, the sheriff comes by and signals
me to stay put...Oh, oh...
"Where are you guys going like that?"
"Euhh...Well..Towards...West-Yellowstone...for now..."
"On the road??" He pulls up to see the rear of the quad,
"Aahh...Your licenced...(smile)...You're gonna wear those tires out..."
"Euh..Yeah...Actually, I thought this road would be gravel."
"In 3 miles, pavement ends...Have a safe trip!" He takes off!
It's the first time we are stopped for being on the road with quads. Not bad!
Yeah ! We barely make it!
|
The day after we travelled on Rock Creek rd, it is closed
because lightning started another forest fire, this one much more aggressive. Good thing
we left Friday or else, we might have stuck in Missoula for a good while! |
Bof... |
Sniff....Sniff A new separation... |
|
We leave our new friends behind...For good... |
|
|
Back on the trails, in the woods along the creek. It's just as fabulous as ever! In
fact, Rock Creek rd is THE most scenic and beautiful section we rode
yet!!
You guys MUST ride it!
A pause to really let it in...
|
How do you know if you're in wildlife habitat? You know you're in
wildlife habitat when you see this on the bear proof trash container... |
How do you know if your steak is thick enough? You know your steak is
thinck enough when you can cook it...standing on the side!! |
|
We feel so much more at home in the woods rather than on "city"
campgrounds. Kinda compensate for not having our friends with us.
