Day 55 & 56

August 30th & 31st, 2007

From Manti to Ferron, Utah.

<< avant / before

          after /  après >>

To get to Ferron from Manti we have to go over the Wasatch plateau again. We decide to tackle trail No3 once more. Just as steep as it was the other day, it is now the engines turn to get a solid work-out! In LOW GEAR, the quad spins and goes from left to right trying to find some traction somewhere... Fortunately, the ground is pretty solid despite the countless rocks...Not really your ideal trail to haul a 650lbs trailer...In fact, it's so steep that the trailer keeps straightening the quad up, kind of like when you tie a weight to a rope. The rope will always tend to stay straight. So, it's kind of difficult to manoeuver...

Glad to see you made it up there with us !! Enjoy one last look at the valley.

What a climb!!! 4,000ft elevation difference within 6 miles !

Stats and number nuts, have fun! Can somebody tell us the actual grade percentage that comes up to?

So, we're going up...

... and up some more ...

...And then up again...

Words of wisdom from our friend Dave:

''God needed a place to put rocks...And he found Utah".

We have to aree!!!

Remember how bright white the stones that made the Manti Temple were?

Guess they did'nt have too much trouble finding white stones...

Think we could say this trail is rocky?? (No worries Nick, the trailer is holding up...)

Back on the GWT.

Highest point on "Skyline Drive".
10,897ft.

Nice view ! What you see down there is Ferron reservoir.

NEW !

Here's the "Hey, that has nothing to do with the rest of the story" picture:

Don't look any further, it is here that the black sheep of the heard is hiding!
(told you it had nothing to do with the rest of the story:)

Yeah ! Totally different scenery!
Yeah !

Incredibly scenic and fascinating, the changes in scenery! It's typical to Ferron: West of highway 10, mountains, elevations, trees. East of it, desert, heat and dry river beds...

Bof... The wind blows all night !
Bof...

Strange, that phenomenon. There's hardly any wind all day then, at night, it blows...It's not easy to sleep when you never know if the tent is going to fold back on ya...
Sure hope it'll hold !!!

Surprise...WOW !! What a change!! Where did the trees go??

Tree covered mountains just turned into huge blocks of rock!

Cool place! Cool guy! Cool kit!

Found a campground in such a fabulous environment!! Fantastic! Let's see if we can stay there...

Yesss! We are welcomed to stay!

It's so cool to feel welcomed even if we ride quads. In fact, the campground host is super nice! If you go there, tell him we said HI!

Big thumbs up for that state park for encouraging people to enjoy this beautiful place no matter if they chose motorized recreation or not.

The sun's really hot!
Good thing they have  shelters, here.

Marc's working on lunch (a rare sight, enjoy!)...

...France's working on the computer (a common sight...)

10 months on quads...

We can't really wait until we get back home to get a hair cut, right? So, let's get out the razor (NO, not the Polaris RZR, the rechargeable razor...) and ...Voilà !!
(note that there's less and less hair to cut so it's easy on the batteries...)

We enjoy a few days at the state park. Since the place is pretty crowded because of the Arapeen ATV Jamboree, we stay in the overflow area. Well, it's still is'nt too bad, is it?
